Ville de désaignes

Village of Désaignes (300m, 4 min walk)

Medieval village, registered in the inventory of Historical Monuments in 1972, Désaignes has kept some traces of its past. As we walk through the village, we can contemplate the few fragments of ramparts that have resisted time; three of the four entrance gates, the fortress of the 11th/ 12th century, the temple and the Romanesque church, many houses in Gothic style, the Barbière fountain and of course its 14th century castle, restored. It is open to the public from Easter to All Saints. The castle houses, on four floors, the municipal museum which offers rich and varied exhibitions (see section Association – “Les Amis du Vieux Désaignes”).

Lake with supervised swimming (100m, 2 min walk )

Below the campsite La Douce Ardèche, you will find the pretty municipal beach along the Doux. The beach was built thanks to a small dam that created a calm body of water and ideal for swimming. Supervised every afternoon in July and August by a qualified lifeguard, you can swim there quietly. The beach has a picnic area and a children’s playground. This little corner of paradise well guarded is also the favorite corner of trout fishermen because the Doux is a superb river of 1st category that crosses the Monts d’Ardèche. A few meters away, you can see the old Roman aqueduct of Désaignes.

Trout fishing

The river Doux, which takes its source in the town of Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid, flows into the Rhône at the level of Tournon-sur-Rhône.

It is a river very popular with fishermen.

You can also discover the pleasure of fishing in Labatie d’Andaure: no need for licences, equipment and bait are provided and you only pay for the fish you catch: http://lestruitesdandaure.fr/

Terroir and Heritage (tourist office 100m, 2 min walk)

The 3rd weekend of October is the chestnut fair. Atmosphere of rejoicing when Désaignes celebrates the chestnut. The medieval village takes its fall colors to celebrate the event with many animations. An event that does not lack spice!

The famous medieval festival of Désaignes is full of surprises and opportunities to have fun for young and old alike… A real change of scenery based on conviviality…

Chataignes

Two festive days, friendly, family with, along the alleys, calades and squares of the village of character (and their authentic cobblestones), a real market in the old certified “period” productions, troubadours and trouvères, a welcoming tavern and its wine of hypocras, knights and their mounts, a village under tent, games, jugglers, shows of acrobats at night, but also a castle of the fourteenth century with rooms rich in discoveries, a blacksmith and his forge and of course some characters able to defend the values of chivalry all in the middle of the peasants in their daily life.
